Laboratory Technician position to work on electrochemistry applied to environmental and energy storage processes

IMDEA Energy is opening a Laboratory Technician Position for the Electrochemical Processes Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates to work on Electrochemistry applied to environmental and energy storage processes.

Este puesto se ofrece en el marco de la convocatoria de ayudas para la contratación de ayudantes de investigación y técnicos de laboratorio para el año 2021, cofinanciadas por el Fondo Social Europeo a través del Programa Operativo de Empleo Juvenil y la Iniciativa de Empleo Juvenil (YEI). Referencia:  PEJ-2021-TL/AMB-23430

Tasks Description:

  • General maintenance of the laboratory and equipment calibration.
  • Good practices in the laboratory, safety and health, control of stocks (reagents and consumables), residues management and disposal, sampling, etc.
  • Fabrication, setting up and testing of laboratory-scale prototypes:
    • Fabrication of flow cells and filter-press stacks for electrolyzers, flow batteries and electrochemical reactors in general. 
    • Testing of cells with battery cyclers. Performance assessment and aging under controlled temperature, moisture, flow rates and pressures.
  • Setting up, commissioning and operation of pilot-scale prototypes:
    • Setting up and operation of reactor and battery prototypes at pilot scale. This will require building up and commissioning of test beds equipped with probes and controls of   temperature, flow, pressure, level, pH, ORP, conductivity, electric current and voltage.
    • On line and off line sampling will be also required to analyze reactants and products from electrolysis and from flow battery electrolytes.
Requirements

Compulsory Requirements:

  • Being registered in the File of the National Youth Guarantee Scheme and being beneficiary in such file at  the date of signature of the contract. ( https://www.sepe.es/HomeSepe/Personas/encontrar-trabajo/Garantia-Juvenil.html )
  • Not being employed by the hiring institution at the date of publication of the call.
  • To be in possession of a Higher-Level Training Cycle Degree, (Vocational Training of the Educational System), in Analysis Laboratory and Quality Control, Industrial Chemistry, Automation and industrial robotics, Maintenance of thermal and fluid facilities, or similar.

Merits to value:

  • Hands-on experience in setting up, operation and maintenance of thermal and fluid facilities.
  • Hands-on experience in process monitoring, regulation and control systems.
  • Knowledge on process variables monitoring and data management.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.
Selection Criteria
  • Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
  • Work or training experience related to the profile of the job position.
  • Knowledge of English.
  • Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
Conditions
  • Remuneration: Between 16.000€ - 20.000€ per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.
  • Duration of the contract: Two years.
