Predoctoral Researcher position to work on “Renewable Syngas Production from Biogas via Chemical Looping Reforming"

Description

In particular, the HYWARE project (Renewable hydrogen from wastes: a circular solution for regions without land availability) aims to develop a regional model for the integration of the production of hydrogen from waste and biogas with electrolytic processes. The Thermochemical Processes Unit HYWARE will generate experimental data necessary for the modelling of nonconventional biogas reforming, which is considered as one of the most promising alternatives at the European level.

IMDEA Energy is opening a Predoctoral Researcher position for the Thermochemical Processes Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates to give support in the synthesis, characterization and activity evaluation of oxides in the reforming of biogas into syngas (CO+H2). Furthermore, the selected candidate needs to have the motivation required to pursue a PhD degree within the research field of the project. The requirements are as follows:

Tasks Description:

  • Synthesis and characterization (XRD, Electron Microscopy, etc.) of oxides with redox activity.
  • Running reactions on reforming of gases that emulate biogas composition and monitoring the products.
  • Processing results and writing of reports.
  • To contribute to the communication and dissemination of the research results through high-quality scientific channels including high impact scientific publications, presentation in congresses, etc
  • Supervision of Master and undergradute students.
Requirements

Compulsory Requirements:

  • Official B.Sc. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent, finished in the last 5 years.
  • Official M.Sc. enabling doctoral studies in the area of Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or related.

Other merits to value:

  • Knowledge and and experimental practice on the preparation of oxides with properties as oxygen carriers (perovskites, Mn2O3, etc.) and their characterization by different techniques (XRD, SEM, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experimental practice of handling fixed bed systems for gas phase reactions and monitoring of gas effluent composition, preferably for methane dry reforming.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Motivation to pursue the goals of the project and a PhD degree.

  • Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
  • Work experience related to the profile of the job position.
  • Knowledge of English.
  • Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
Conditions
  • Remuneration: Between 20.900 € – 23.300 € per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.

*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.
