Predoctoral Researcher Position to work on control solutions for renewable energy and storage integration using HVDC and hybrid DC/AC network technologies

IMDEA Energy is opening a Predoctoral Researcher Position for the Electrical Systems Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates to work on control solutions for renewable energy and storage integration using HVDC and hybrid DC/AC network technologies within the framework of the project “HVDC and Hybrid DC/AC Technologies for Reconfigurable Energy Islands" (HVDC4ISLANDS).

The requirements are as follows:
Tasks Description:
- R&D in development of control systems for power electronics converters used in renewable and energy storage integration to hybrid AC and DC grids.
- Modelling of hybrid DC/AC energy islands and their grid integration.
- Implementation and proof of concept of the control algorithms in a Power HIL environment (Smart Energy Integration Lab).
- Participation in national and international research projects related with grid stability and control of grid connected renewable energy sources and energy storage systems.
- Communicate and disseminate research results through high-quality scientific channels including high impact scientific publications, presentations in conferences, etc.
- Supervision of Master or undergraduate studies.
Compulsory Requirements:
- Oficial Master Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Industrial Engineering, Control Systems or similar.
- Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronic or Industrial Engineering, Control Systems or similar.
- Solid background in Power Electronics, Control Systems, Power Engineering and Industrial Communications.
Other merits to value:
- Knowledge and experimental practice in System Modelling, Power Networks, Renewable Energy Technologies, IT technologies and Real-Time Control systems.
- Knowledge and experimental practice of assessment tools for power network stability.
- Experience in modelling power networks, renewable energy sources and energy storage systems in Matlab/Simulink and DigSilent PowerFactory.
- Experience in use of Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) and Power-Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) platforms.
- Oral and written communication skills in English.
- Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
- Work experience related to the profile of the job position.
- Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
- Knowledge of English.
- Remuneration: Between 21.500€ – 24.000€ per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.
*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.
