Postdoctoral Researcher Position to work on Sustainability and Circular Economy of Electrochemical Energy Storage Systems

These positions are funded by the Spanish State Research Agency of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the Unit of Excellence “María de Maeztu” grant with reference number CEX2019-000931-M (2020-2023), awarded in the “Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence” and the “María de Maeztu Units of Excellence” call 2019 of the Spanish State Programme for Knowledge Generation and Scientific and Technological Strengthening of the R&D&I System.

IMDEA Energy is opening a Postdoctoral Researcher Position for the Systems Analysis and Electrochemical Processes Units looking for talented and motivated candidates with strong engineering background. The aim of the research position is to strengthen the research line on New Concepts for Electromobility by investigating the sustainability and circular economy of electrochemical energy storage systems”.  

Task Description

  • Simulation and optimization of processes for the manufacturing and recycling of electrochemical storage systems.
  • Techno-economic assessment of these systems within the circular economy context.
  • Sustainability (including environmental, social and economic aspects) assessment of energy systems.
  • Dissemination and publication of research results in high impact scientific publications.
  • Generate research output and contribute to the development of independent and original ideas as appropriate.
  • Writing of project proposals to national and international calls related to the topic.
  • Supervision of PhD, Master or undergraduate students.
Requirements

Compulsory Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree in chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, energy engineering or similar.

Other merits to value:

  • Demonstrated experience and solid background in process modelling, simulation and optimization in energy and/or chemical applications.
  • Demonstrated experience and solid background in techno-economics assessment of energy systems.
  • Demonstrated experience and solid background in life cycle assessment methodology and tools, including application to energy systems and circular economy strategies.
  • Experience with electrochemical storage systems is an added value.
  • Proven knowledge of process simulation and life cycle analysis software packages.
  • Experienced in national and international research projects in the field of energy.
  • Proven track record in publishing research results.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
Conditions

Remuneration: Between 35.500€ – 38.000€ per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.

*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.

Duration of the contract: Until December 31st, 2023
