Researcher in Training position to work on computational modelling of nanomaterials for energy storage applications

Description

IMDEA Energy is opening a Researcher in Training position for the Electrochemical Processes Unit to work on computational modelling of nanomaterials for energy storage applications. We are looking for talented and motivated candidates to computationally predict new materials for battery applications.

Tasks Description:

  • Application of Computational modelling techniques (Density Functional Theory - DFT, wavefunction theory, Molecular Dynamics) for:
    • The calculation of important electrochemical properties (redox potentials, solvation energies) of molecules in solutions.
    • The identification of the solvation sphere of organic molecules, cation and anions in concentrated solutions.
    • Discovery of new porous materials for applications in metal ion batteries.
    • Identifying structure-activity relationships.
  • To contribute to the communication and dissemination of the research results through high-quality scientific channels including high impact scientific publications, presentation in congresses, etc.

Requirements

Compulsory Requirements: 

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Material Science/Physics or equivalent.
  • Having less than 4 years in possession of this official degree.

Merits to value:

  • MSc. degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Material Science/Energy or related topics.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English (working language will be English).
  • Experience with Electronic Structure Calculations (Density Functional Theory, Wave-Function Theory) or Molecular Dynamics.
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry.
  • Knowledge on UNIX-based environments.
  • Programming or scripting skills (fortran, perl, python, …).
Selection Criteria
  • Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
  • Experience / Knowledge related to the profile of the job position.
  • Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
  • Knowledge of English.
Conditions

Duration: One-year Training contract.

Remuneration: 13.500 € annual gross salary.
