IMDEA Energy offers a position of Laboratory Technician in the Thermochemical Processes Unit within the framework of the Call for grants for the implementation of Technology R&D programmes 2018 of the Community of Madrid.

The main functions of the post will be:

  • Preparation of bio-waste (lignocellulosic biomass, FORSU, etc.) by grinding and screening for thermochemical valorisation.
  • Support in carrying out pyrolysis tests.
  • Characterisation of reaction products (biochar, bio-oil, gas and coke) according to the usual tests carried out in the laboratory: Elemental analysis (CHNS-O), thermogravimetric analysis (volatile matter, ash and fixed carbon content), Karl-Fischer titration of bio-oil (H2O content), analysis by gas chromatography with TCD (gas composition) and FID (pyrolysis oil composition) detectors, analysis of bio-oils by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer (GC-MS), ion chromatography (IC), etc.
  • General maintenance of the laboratory and calibration of equipment (balances, ovens, etc.).
  • Monitoring of the perfect state of the means established for laboratory work in safe conditions.

This contract is financed through the programme S2018/EMT-4344(BIOTRES-CM) of the Call for aid for the implementation of Technology R&D programmes 2018 of the Community of Madrid, being 50% co-financed by the European Social Fund for the period 2014-2020.

IMDEA Energía is committed to co-finance 50% of this contract.

Requirements

Mandatory requirement:

  • To be in possession of the Technical Degree or Higher Technician in Laboratory Operations or similar within the framework of the vocational training of the educational system.

Other requirements to be assessed:

  • Level of English.
  • Knowledge of the most common analytical techniques in the Unit such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, potentiometric titrations, thermogravimetric analysis.
  • Experience in the assembly and operation of small-scale experimental facilities (tubing, fittings, measuring and control instruments, data acquisition, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience in laboratory work according to standardised procedures.
  • Knowledge of data processing, quality and safety in laboratories.

Duration: until the end of the project: 31/12/2022

Gross Remuneration: 15.000-19.000 € Gross per year
