IMDEA Energy is opening a Predoctoral Researcher Position for the Electrical Systems Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates to work on control solutions for renewable energy and storage grid integration using Virtual Power Plants

The requirements are as follows:

Tasks Description:

  • R&D in development of control systems for renewable energy sources and energy storage systems in electricity networks.
  • Modelling and design of primary and secondary controllers for Virtual Power Plants (VPPs).
  • Modelling of electrical distribution networks with VPPs and development of grid ancillary services.
  • Implementation and proof of concept of the control algorithms in a Power HIL environment (Smart Energy Integration Lab).
  • Participation in national and international research projects related with grid stability and control of grid connected renewable energy sources and energy storage systems.
  • Dissemination and publication of research results in scientific journals.
Requirements

Compulsory Requirements:

  • Oficial Master Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Industrial Engineering, Control Systems or similar.
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronic or Industrial Engineering, Control Systems or similar.
  • Knowledge of Power Engineering, Power Electronics, Control Systems and Industrial Communications.

Other merits to value:

  • Knowledge in System Modelling, Power Networks, Renewable Energy Technologies, IT technologies and Real-Time Control systems.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools for power network stability.
  • Experience in modelling power networks, renewable energy sources and energy storage systems in Matlab/Simulink and DigSilent PowerFactory.
  • Experience in use of Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) and Power-Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) platforms.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.
Selection Criteria
  • Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
  • Work experience related to the profile of the job position.
  • Knowledge of English.
  • Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
Conditions
  • Remuneration: Between 21.000€ – 23.500€ per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.

*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.

  • Duration of the contract: 1 year, possibility of annual renewals depending on performance
