Research Assistant position to work on Design of self-propelled MOFs for an efficient biological barrier crossing.

Description

IMDEA Energy is opening a Research Assistant position for the Advanced Porous Materials Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates with background in Materials Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy,and/or Nanotechnology to work on the preparation of propelled formulations based on MOFs, achieving an effective and safe barrier crossing, enabling, in turn, a controlled drug delivery in the target site for the BioMOFtion project.

Tasks Description:

  • Synthesis of propelled MOF-based systems (MOFtors) using different methods (e.g. solvothermal, microwaves).
  • Association of active ingredients (AIs; e.g. drugs, enzymes).
  • Full characterization of the obtained materials using a large panel of techniques.
  • In vitro testing: e.g. cell proliferation (MTT, cell cycle), Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production.
  • Ex vivo assays: biological efficacy (tumoral vs. no tumoral), biodistribution.
  • Critical analysis of the results and writing of reports.
  • Dissemination and publication of research results in scientific journals.
Requirements

Compulsory Requirements:

  • Official BSc in Chemistry, Material Science, Pharmacy or equivalent (no PhD).

Other merits to value:

  • MSc Degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Nanotechnology or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in material synthesis (inorganic and coordination chemistry) and characterization (XRD, spectroscopies, microscopies, TGA, gas sorption, etc.).
  • Knowledge and/or experience in biology and/or nanomedicine (cell culture, encapsulations, surface coatings) as well as evaluation techniques (HPLC, cytometry, ELISA, microscopy, etc.).
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Motivation to pursue the goals of the project.
Selection Criteria
  • Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
  • Work experience related to the profile of the job position.
  • Knowledge of English.
  • Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
Conditions
  • Remuneration:  Between 18.000 - 20.000 € gross salary per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.

*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.

  • Duration of the contract:  18 months.
