Laboratory Technical position to work in the Thermochemical Processes Unit
IMDEA Energy Institute is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence dedicated to conducting research and development (R&D) in the fields of renewable energy and clean energy technologies, while fostering strong partnerships with leading companies in the energy sector (www.energy.imdea.org).
IMDEA Energy is opening a Laboratory Technician Position to join the Thermochemical Processes Unit, looking for a motivated and skilled candidate with a strong interest in experimental research and laboratory work. The successful candidate will provide technical and experimental support across both the catalyst synthesis and characterization and reaction activities of the Unit. The position requires a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of catalytic processes, including chemical reactor operation, catalyst synthesis and characterization, and relevant analytical techniques.
The requirements are as follows:
Tasks Description:
- Characterization of catalysts using techniques available within the Unit, including gas physisorption for specific surface area and porosity determination and infrared spectroscopy for acidity measurements, among other techniques.
- Operation of catalytic reaction systems, particularly fixed-bed reactors, including preparation, start-up, operation, monitoring, and shutdown of experimental units.
- Characterization and analysis of reaction products using standard laboratory techniques, including gas chromatography, GC-MS, and Karl Fischer titration, among others.
- Processing and interpretation of experimental data and preparation of results reports and associated technical documentation.
- General laboratory maintenance, including verification and calibration of laboratory equipment such as balances and furnaces.
- Management of laboratory supplies, including inventory control and procurement of materials, reagents, and consumables.
- Management and proper disposal of laboratory waste in accordance with established procedures.
- Monitoring the condition and availability of laboratory equipment, materials, and resources to ensure that experimental activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
- Monitoring and management of laboratory gas supplies and gas distribution systems, including checking gas cylinder availability, pressure levels, connections, and general operating conditions to ensure a safe and continuous gas supply.
Compulsory Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, or a related field, obtained within the last 10 years.
- Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience involving one or more of the analytical techniques required for the tasks described above.
- Professional experience in a research environment.
Other Merits to value:
- Knowledge and experimental practice on heterogeneous catalysis, either the synthesis of catalysts (preferably based on zeolites) or on running reactions (preferably fixed-bed reactors).
- Knowledge and experimental practice on analytical techniques typically applied in catalysts characterization (gas physisorption, etc.) and/or analysis of chemical products (GC-MS, etc.)
- Oral and written communication skills in English.
- Specialized training in analytical techniques and/or data processing related to the tasks described above (see “Task Description”).
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in laboratory work following standardized procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality and safety procedures.
- Adequacy of the candidate's training to the requested profile.
- Work experience related to the profile of the job position
- Motivation for accomplishing high-quality research.
- Knowledge of English
- Remuneration: Between 30.000€ – 34.000€ per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.
*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.
- Duration of the contract: Until the end of the project. June 2027
IMDEA Energía: Móstoles, Madrid.
- Certificates of academic titles
- Msc Official Academic title
