Assistant researcher position to work on “Catalytic pyrolysis of organic wastes”

Description

The HUB MADRID +CIRCULAR project (“HUB in circular economy innovation from the Community of Madrid”), a regional project cofounded by the European Fund for the regional development to contribute on the improvement of the private-public cooperation in I+D+i within the RIS3 and FEDER programmes. The main objective is to explore models and technologies for the valorisation of wastes and generation of hydrogen.   

IMDEA Energy is opening an assistant researcher position for the Thermochemical Processes Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates to give support in the research line belonging to the aforementioned HUB project related with the catalytic pyrolysis of wastes. 

Tasks Description:

  • Characterization and preparation of feedstocks for pyrolysis reactions.
  • Running reactions of pyrolysis and analysis of products (biochar, bio-oil, gas and coke) according to the usual tests carried out in the laboratory: elemental analysis (CHNS-O), thermogravimetric analysis, Karl-Fischer titration of bio-oil, gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer (GC-MS), ion chromatography (IC), etc.
  • Processing results and writing of reports.
Requirements

Compulsory Requirements:

  • Official BSc in Chemical Engineering, applied chemistry or equivalent, finished in the last 5 years. 

Merits to value:

  • Knowledge and experimental practice on heterogeneous catalysis, preferably on catalytic conversion of solid wastes.
  • Knowledge and experimental practice of analytical techniques typically applied in catalytic pyrolysis: GC-MS, GC-FID, thermogravimetry, elemental CHNS/O analysis, etc.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Motivation to pursue the goals of the project.
Conditions
  • Remuneration: 17.200 €  Gross Salary per year.

*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.

  • Duration of the contract: 1 year, possibility of annual renewals depending on performance.
