Business Development & Technology Transfer Manager
IMDEA Energy Institute´s main objective is to develop R&D activities in the fields of renewable energy, decarbonization and clean energy technologies by establishing strong links with leading companies in the energy sector. (www.energy.imdea.org).
IMDEA Energy is currently looking for a highly motivated and experienced candidate, with initiative, results orientation and ability for teamwork, to join the Innovation, Technology Development and Strategic Alliances area. The successful candidate will contribute to the commercialization of IMDEA Energy technologies, the development of strategic industrial collaborations, the promotion of entrepreneurship initiatives (spin-offs/startups) and the support of industrial property and licensing activities. The position will work transversally with scientific teams and external stakeholders (industry, investors, accelerators and public administration), reporting to the Head of Innovation, Technology Development and Strategic Alliances.
Principal Tasks Description:
- Identification, prioritization and valorization of technological results/assets with exploitation potential, assessing technology maturity and strategic fit, and defining value propositions, use cases and commercialization materials (one-pagers, pitch decks, technology fiches and dissemination actions/events).
- Prospecting, monitoring and prioritization of business opportunities with national and international industry; organization of meetings, visits and demonstrations; and support to technical and exploitation-related negotiations in coordination with internal areas.
- Design and execution of routes to market, including licensing, co-development agreements, industrial pilots, framework agreements, technology services and/or spin-off creation, adapting the strategy to the maturity and market readiness of each asset.
- Promotion and follow-up of industrial pilots, ensuring progress against milestones and conversion into recurring agreements (contracts, framework agreements or licenses), including pipeline/CRM tracking, KPI monitoring and status reporting.
- Activation and operation of entrepreneurship initiatives: identification of projects with spin-off/startup potential, mentoring support, validation of market needs and business models, and accompaniment during creation and acceleration (first pilots/sales, connection with co-founders, mentors and investors).
- Support to the Head of area in building alliances with universities, technology centers, clusters, associations and public administration (e.g., Comunidad de Madrid) for joint programmes, pilots, public procurement of innovation and scale-up initiatives.
- Support to the industrial property strategy: identification of potentially patentable results, support in disclosure processes and portfolio prioritization, and preparation of licensing opportunities (target markets, positioning arguments and commercialization materials).
- Support, when required, to exploitation and impact-related inputs in proposals and projects, including market sizing, business model elements, preliminary commercialization pathways and economic rationale, in coordination with scientific and project management teams.
- Contribution to the preparation of collaboration proposals and funding opportunities linked to technology transfer, innovation programmes and corporate partnerships, ensuring alignment between technical capabilities, market needs and exploitation plans.
- Participation in initiatives to reinforce IMDEA Energy's technology transfer, business development and strategic alliances capabilities.
Compulsory Requirements
- Official Bachelor or Master Degree.
- Proven professional experience (more than 4 years) in at least two of the following areas: technology transfer/commercialization of deep-tech, technology-based B2B business development, and support to startup/spin-off creation (incubation/acceleration or corporate-startup collaboration).

- Proven ability to work in cross-functional environments with scientific teams and external stakeholders, and to deliver measurable outcomes in business development and/or technology transfer activities.
- Experience preparing market-facing materials and managing opportunity pipelines (CRM/pipeline, KPIs, progress tracking) to support technology commercialization decisions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, results orientation and ability to manage multiple priorities in an international R&D environment. Oral and written communication skills in English.
- Experience and/or training in energy and sustainability sectors (storage, renewables, sustainable fuels, hydrogen, grids, materials or related fields).
- Knowledge of industrial property and technology transfer instruments (patents, licenses, NDA, MoU and exploitation agreements).
- Experience in negotiation and structuring of industrial pilots, framework agreements, licensing discussions or technology service agreements.
- Network of contacts in industry, investment, accelerators or public innovation programs is a plus.
- Experience supporting spin-offs/startups, including business model definition, early market validation and connection with mentors/investors.
- Analytical and organizational skills. Communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain simple business development dashboards (pipeline KPIs, conversion indicators, risks and early warnings) to support decision-making.
